The modern and convenient hotel - "Gogol House" was founded in July 2012 and is located in the historical center of St. Petersburg. It is the “area of the Russian classical literature”. The hotel is situated in the house, where Nikolay Vasilyevich Gogol, the great Russian writer, was living and working for several years.

 The house was very high for those times as it had 5 floors. It was built in 1827 by the order of a wealthy merchant, commerce adviser I. Zverkov, soon the house became one of the biggest houses for rent in St. Petersburg.

Previously it was only allowed to build 4-floor houses. The Zverkov’s house was predominantly inhabited by the tradesmen and different merchants. It was because of the Sennoy market located nearby (even up to now, but in the modern form). The windows of the apartments of the roomers went out into the street, and in the "faters" (smaller and cheaper flats) the windows went out into the yard - clerks, cooks, coachmen lived in such rooms.
